Instead of spending large sums and years implementing a traditional ERP system, small and medium-sized electronics manufacturers are finding that modern, SME-focused manufacturing software can provide the functionality they need at a fraction of the cost and implementation effort. MRPeasy is a manufacturing ERP system designed specifically for small and medium-sized manufacturers. This focus sets it apart from systems that originated as accounting or inventory applications, as well as large enterprise ERP platforms that can require extensive consulting, customization, and IT resources. For smaller electronics manufacturers, the difference in implementation effort can be substantial. Poweronics, a power electronics manufacturer producing gate drivers for high-power applications, needed to manage around 1,200 components across its product portfolio. Managing Director Colin Hart self-implemented MRPeasy after starting a free trial. “The implementation was very straightforward—setting up MRPeasy only took me about three hours,” Hart says. The setup included around 1,500 SKU lines as well as existing bills of materials and sales, purchase, and manufacturing orders. Britannia 2000 Holdings, which manufactures mission computers, displays, airborne video recorders, and other electronics for the aerospace and defense industry, also implemented the system internally. “I set it up myself and it was that easy,” says Director Ralph Jones. Exacta Technologies currently uses MRPeasy across dozens of users and integrates it with systems including Xero and Grafana. Managing Director Chris Landen says the software continues to provide good value even as the company has grown. “MRPeasy does a lot for what it costs,” he says. “There are systems that cost far more and don’t give you meaningfully better functionality.” Affordability only matters if the system can handle the realities of electronics manufacturing. Electronics companies commonly need to manage large numbers of components, multi-level BOMs and subassemblies, product revisions, long supplier lead times, subcontracted operations, serial and lot traceability, and rapidly changing material costs. Even relatively small manufacturers can therefore have highly complex operations. Poweronics is a good example. Its approximately 1,200 components need to be coordinated across purchasing, inventory, BOMs, manufacturing orders, and customer demand. After implementing MRPeasy, the company gained much tighter control over inventory. “We’ve never had a shortage after adopting MRPeasy,” Hart says. This is particularly important in electronics manufacturing because one missing low-cost component can prevent an expensive finished product from being completed. Reliable inventory records combined with material requirements planning help manufacturers see what they have, what upcoming production will consume, and what needs to be purchased. For Exacta Technologies, which manufactures custom hardware platforms and high-performance servers, product complexity has increased significantly as the company has grown. MRPeasy is used to manage multi-level and configurable BOMs together with revision and engineering change control, inventory, purchasing, and production planning. “Our product set is large and complex,” Landen says. MRPeasy enables the company to manage complex BOMs, including their revisions and engineering changes. Traceability is another key requirement for many electronics companies. Britannia 2000 operates in aerospace and defense, where the ability to track materials and components through the production process is particularly important. “With the software, I’m able to track components and achieve traceability throughout the order chain,” Founder Ralph Jones says. For manufacturers combining internal production with outsourced processes, ERP also provides a way to keep subcontracting within the same production plan.
