The company has rolled out a series of sensors and a mobile security tower at a much lower cost than traditional rentals. Embedded Works, an authorized Amazon Ring dealer, has seen interest from shopping center owners who previously rented mobile security towers for thousands a month but can now buy a Ring tower with a high-def camera and boom to use as long as they want for $5,000. That price does not include the trailer, which might add $2,000. With an extended battery and added solar panels, the cost of the mobile unit, all in, would be $10,000, Andy Do, president of Embedded Works told Fierce . “That’s cheaper than my customer is renting it for,” he said. Embedded Works also provides reliable 5G and a variety of sensors like smoke, humidity, temperature and barometric pressure along with GPS tracking to round out the offerings from Ring . “Security towers are now becoming standard in retail construction sites,” Do said. “Customers have true cost of ownership tied to one’s Ring account. For a subscription of possibly $100 a month per site, you get live monitoring. That’s lowest cost manpower for security that’s virtual. Customers are surprised at how much it will cost to own it.” Serving as a Ring authorized dealer is also “promising business for my company,” Do added. “Customers get to work with a trusted brand like Amazon and tap into the millions of subscribers who are already customers for Ring in the home, now expanded for their business.” Ring’s jobsite portfolio includes Ring Cameras, Ring Sensors and the new Ring Mobile Security Tower for professional security at construction sites, parking lots, outdoor event venues and more, according to a press release. The Ring tower starts at $4,999.99 for the plug-in version with solar powered versions at $7,400 and $9,100. The Ring price is well below what a traditional surveillance trailer would cost, from $15,000 to $50,000 or up to $3,500 a month in rental, according to a brief survey of various products on the market. Also, a Ring Elite camera for complex settings can be mounted in some overhead areas and provides Retinal 4K optical sensing to reduce the number of devices needed to cover expansive areas. Amazon sells Ring Elite 140 4K with two retinal cameras for $500. The Ring Mobile Security Tower includes a Ring Elite 360 camera that sits above the 12-foot collapsible mast. Smart Security allows for AI-driven unusual event alerts. Installation is listed at starting at $130 per device through Ring’s partner network. The combination of a wide range of sensing devices and wireless connectivity provides companies with a sweet spot for security, analysts said, while the surprisingly low entry point for the tower gives companies access to the Amazon-backed cloud infrastructure and brand. The combination of security products for businesses competes with Verkada and Motorola Solutions, although Bosch and others mainly serve larger enterprises. Amazon bought Ring in 2018, reportedly for more than $1billion. Ring was part of Amazon’s smart home and security offerings, integrating with Alexa, Echo and Amazon Key delivery and then Amazon’s robotics and AI work. In 2022, Ring announced Ring for Business. The overall smart products market for SMB is growing, but mainly in selective areas. Security, energy efficiency and operational monitoring are growing steadily and the strongest demand is from purchases that can clearly save money, lower risk and reduce labor requirements, according to several analysts who study the field.
